Memberships:
Membership in the Chilliwack PieceMakers Quilters' Guild, is open to any person interested in the art of quilting. Dues are $30.00 annually, If a new member joins after January 31st, the fee will be reduced to $20.00 for the remainder of the membership year. A new membership form is to be completed each year. This will ensure accurate information for the membership list.
There is no drop in fee. A person can come as a guest once. If they come a second time there is an expectation that they join the Guild and pay the membership fee. This does not apply to guests who are invited to specific events (e.g. invitations to our sister Chilliwack Quilters’ Guild members to attend presentations and/or trunk shows).
Our Guild Pin is available for purchase at a cost of $5.00.
Name Badge:
Members receive instructions to make a name tag when they sign up to become a member. You are encouraged to wear your name tag in order that the other members can get to know you.
Programs:
Various programs are provided at our General Meetings including, but not limited to, presentations and trunk shows from guest speakers and guild members, guild member quilting journeys, demonstrations on technique or equipment and potluck dinners.
A “sharing table” where members can leave fabric, patterns, books etc. that they no longer need is available at each General meeting. Items not picked up, by other members throughout the evening, must be taken back home.
Show & Tell:
Members are encouraged to bring their projects to each meeting to “Show and Tell” to their fellow guild members. Photographs will be taken of your Show and Tell projects. These photographs will be uploaded to the Guild Blog and the website and used in PowerPoint presentations which may be shown at our Guild Show and other promotional functions. The photographer is to be advised if you do not want photographs taken.
Library:
We are a “learning” group, always interested in keeping up with new and innovative ways, and yet keeping the old time-tried methods … with some adaptations. The Guild library was started with donations from members and now has a regular budget to purchase new books to pique the interests of all quilters.
Set Up & Clean Up:
Please assist with the cleaning up after each meeting by stacking chairs and returning tables to the storage cupboard.
Hospitality:
Coffee and Tea are available for your enjoyment at the General meetings. Please remember to bring your own mug as we are not allowed to use the mugs that belong to the facility. We also want to encourage “going green”. Members are also to bring their own dishes and cutlery for the potluck events.
Sympathy cards will be sent to members when they lose their spouse, parents, children and siblings. Get well cards will be sent to members only. “Thinking of you” cards will be sent to members when significant events impacting their lives occur. Past members will also receive a card for illnesses or other significant events.
Newsletter:
Members are welcome to submit newsletter articles. The due date is the Wednesday before the monthly meeting. Members will receive their newsletters by email and it is also posted on the Web Page. Members will receive a hard copy of their newsletter if the member does not have email or is unable to print their newsletter.
We Care & Hospice Quilts:
The Guild is blessed with having the most wonderful group of friendly and talented ladies as members. Our members make approximately 130 “We Care Quilts.” a year for distribution into the community. These quilts go to various groups, including, but not limited to, the hospice, hospital baby unit, mother and baby programs and victim services.
The We Care Committee usually holds a We Care Workshop once per year in the spring. All material (cotton for the top, batting and backing) is provided. Kits are also available throughout the year.
We Care quilts are welcome all year round. The We Care Committee will supply batting and backing upon request as well as labels for the back of the quilt. Placing your name on the label is encouraged but not required.
Youth Bags:
Every second (odd) year the group make and fill 50 bags, with toiletries, gloves, socks and hats for disadvantaged youth in our community.
Quilt Show/Raffle Quilt:
Our Quilt Show is normally held every two years (even years) in the Chilliwack Alliance Church, 8700 Young Road, Chilliwack, BC V2P 4P4. The permanent name of the Quilt Show is “PieceMaking in the Valley”.
