Day Retreat May 25, 2024
It was a cold and wet Saturday for May, a great day to be inside sewing. Thirteen members packed up their sewing machines and supplies and came out to play, sew and visit. Everyone managed to accomplish a good day of work in the 6 hours spent together. It was lovely to see some new mambers who had not been at a retreat day before. Thanks to those who brought the yummy treats to eat. That's a wrap until next year, keep those sewing machine humming along.
Day Retreat 2023
October 21 was the day to join in on our first day retreat of this quilting year. We gathered at 10am and left at 4pm tired but feeling accomplished. Some of the members sewed up a storm while others did hand stitching or cutting prep for new projects. Lots of goodies were donated making for some tasty snacking. Nancy drew a lot of attention as she was ruler quilting a project and several of us had questions for her. We wondered if Trish was working on one of the many UFO projects she signed up to complete for the challenge. All of us celebrated Normas first official day of retirement. Nic, our first man to join the guild, impressed us with his stories. It was wonderful to see so many of our newest members attend. Everyone is looking forward to the next one, maybe you too will join in.
Retreat Days
Day Retreat January 20, 2024
Despite the winter weather 14 members joined in for an enjoyable day of sewing and visiting. Karlie completed the quilting for 4 We Care quilts, she hardly took a break all day. Joanne brought her binding to work on. Ursula worked on a project she has had sitting around for a long long time, it has well over 100 blocks to make, they were all cut and prepped waiting for her machine stitching. Nic also loves organization, his pieces for the project he was making were all neatly bagged up and labelled. Natalie worked on sewing together blocks for baby quilts. Karri was free-motion quilting on her project. Rachel was piecing a fantastic wedge block to make a Chistmas tree skirt for her sister. Carla came with a project she got expert colour and planning advise for. Norma worked on paper piecing using a magazine page as the backing. Lyn used her binding scraps to work on a fancy pattern for a We Care quilt top. Nancy made a project smaller to be mounted on her canvas board. Janet did her hand work as she always does at these sew days, no machine for her. Darlene C was piecing a fancy block pattern in very contrasting colours. Donna didn't bring her machine either, she worked on some prep and visited with Darlene. It was a super productive day.
Our First Day Retreat Since Covid -
What fun we all had being productive on our first day retreat since Covid. 27 ladies showed up with their equipment and projects to work all day. Of course there was lots of visiting done as well. Beatrice gave a free demonstation on free motion quilting and there were boxes and boxes of fabric at amazing prices available on sale tables during the afternoon. Janet did a wonderful job at arranging the whole event and included snacks for us to munch on and an array of door prizes to be won.
